Did You Survive the Instagram and Facebook Blackout?
Yesterday’s widespread outage of Instagram and Facebook sent millions of users into a frenzy! Like many, you may have experienced not being able to post or scroll through your feed, only able to view posts from days ago, or the inability to send direct messages to other users. The reason behind the massive blackout that left users unable to use social media has yet to be identified. However, Facebook’s announcement on Twitter confirmed the importance of using multiple methods to contact your customers.
Even if your business is primarily conducted using social media, yesterday’s blackout indicates the importance of being able to communicate with your customers outside of social media. It also demonstrated that diversifying your social media platforms is a useful strategy because you never know when you may lose access to one, or all, of the social media platforms you use on a daily basis.
Here’s some easy ways to ensure you don’t completely lose your audience during the next social media blackout:
Email Marketing – Never lose contact with your customers by capturing their email addresses
Mobile Marketing – Stay in touch with your customers via text, apps, website marketing, and email
Text Marketing – Easily communicate with your customers via text message
Use Multiple Social Media Platforms – Maintain your primary social media accounts but set up emergency accounts on other platforms
Direct Mail Marketing – Snail mail still exists
Telephone – Yup, this thing still exists. Maybe your customer would love a surprise phone call from you!
Yesterday served as a reminder to think outside of social media. You cannot rely on social media alone to grow your business. If you’re looking for new ways to reach new or existing customers, email us at Writers@SamsWord.com. We can help!
